It was almost certainly in existence by 1643 and may have been established as far back as 1517, which would make it one of the oldest known public houses with Robin Hood-related names. It is now named 'The Water Rats'. The original acute hospital in Wakefield was established as part of the Stanley Royd Hospital and opened on 8 March 1900.
